The South Wales sites employ around 250 people with the Newbridge Manufacturing site being built in 1982 to house everything under one roof. We have had vast investments into new highspeed machinery and have the capacity to produce over 15 million square metres of Carpet every year. That is enough to get you to Argentina and back.

At Abingdon Flooring we currently have 2 exciting opportunities to join our busy engineering team as a multi skilled apprentice. You will be learning about innovative technologies and machinery that we use in our production process, that will set you into a fulfilling and exciting career. The support and mentoring you receive during your course will be provided by engineers with valuable knowledge and experience. The team will help you to develop and guide you to reach your full potential alongside your classroom learning.

Your role will involve fault finding and learning to resolve engineering issues that occur on production equipment and, installation and maintenance of machinery. This will include gaining experience across all engineering disciplines and knowledge of production process.

Successful candidates would expect to become a key team member with career progression

Salary & Working Hours

Your apprenticeship will consist of 3 years electrical/mechanical training and 1 year of mechanical/Electrical depending on your bias. Gaining BTEC level 3, Digital Literacy Level 2 and NVQ Level 3 qualifications, in your first 2 years. Block release for training and work experience.

Salary expectations : £19338.61pa for first year (55% of qualified grade)
Increasing to £28128.88pa in year 2 subject to satisfactory performance (80%)
Then increasing to £31644.99pa in year 3 subject to satisfactory performance until qualified (90%) Qualified Technician £35,161.11pa

Your hours of work will be in line with those being worked at (NDGT) during term time and the maintenance department in which you will be based whilst at Site are:

Monday – Thursday: 8.00am – 4.00pm

Friday: 8.00am – 2.00pm

  • A technically minded individual with an interest in how things work
  • A logical thinker with the ability to work as part of a team and learn from those around you and being able to use your own initiative.
  • An aptitude for problem solving and hands on work
  • Clear and strong communication skills
  • Self motivated to excel in learning and meeting targets while following safety and best practice standards

Essential qualifications : 5- GSCE’s C grade and above (or equivalent), 2 of the subjects must be in Maths and English
